Hey so no one asked but... What if I just. Shared the incantations for the signature spells of some of my twst OCs as well as what these spells do. Would that be fun. Pls say yes.

🦐Yuna: Strand of Time -

"Threads interwoven intricately, binding my soul to yours. We shall pass one another many a time but it shall remain just another memory, held together by a Strand of Time..." (Note: incantation is not spoken. Rather, it comes through as more a voice in Yuna's head).

What it does: After confronting an Overblot head on (aka actually fighting and getting involved with things), she temporarily blacks out. During this time, the overblottee is also likely unconscious. If they are both out during this time, they will find themselves in an odd, monochromatic theatre. There, Yuna can temporarily interact with whoever it is, and witness fragments of their past. When the spell ends, typically when Yuna and the theatre's inhabitant have come to a state of acceptance (in some form), both will awaken at different paces, with the overblottee having no recollection of the theatre whatsoever, and Yuna only knowing that she was in the theatre, but not knowing with who or why. This basically is my interpretation of post-ob scenes because like... Listen I think it's dumb as shit that as players we see it but then no one else can and can't sympathize in the same way idk.

🎩 Lewis: Very Merry -

"For one to kill time is a rather heinous act, but yet we must do as we can with the result. As such this party shall remain until the end... Very Merry!"

What it does: Time around Lewis is paused, and he can, for a short time, exist in a pocket dimension outside of space and time. This duration is determined by a variety of factors, including if he's alone or with a friend, how much magic he has, and his mood, among other things. He can store nonliving matter in there indefinitely (which allows him to have tea parties in there whenever he wishes), and any organic matter MUST be incapable of living without being connected to another being (e.g., cut flowers and disembodied arms are okay [and also things he has had in there before. Don't ask.] BUT rooted plants and actual people cannot be sustained in there for a long period of time [and will shorten the duration of the spell]).

♌ Izem: For the King -

"My loyalty is pledged to few, and no man nor beast shall sway this vow. To show my devotion I grant you this shield... For The King."

What it does: Think like. Follow me from Pokemon. Basically, if he uses it, it directs all magical attacks from one target onto him, as well as physical attacks. This one is a short one tbh. Nice and easy. A fact related to it though, is that Izem has no recollection of the moment he developed this spell, as it actually came about during. Well those of u who know my RP blog know about The Incident now so... Yeah.

🦜 Rusul: Parrot's Mimicry -

"You call my name, I respond in kind, but the voice you hear will not be mine~ Parrot's Mimicry!"

What it does: Rusul is able to copy the voice of any person he has heard speak before. The catch, though, is that he HAS to have heard them speak in-person. So unfortunately, character impressions are not possible for him unless he went to meet the VA in person, heard THEM do an impression, and then copied the impression from there.

🐁James: Goodbye So Soon -

"I do hate to leave, but with time so short, I must say so long... Goodbye So Soon".

What it does: James is able to teleport to any spot that he is able to see nearby, but he MUST be trapped in some capacity (e.g., restrained or cornered). The spell throws up a smokescreen that allows him to vanish from sight and reappear in the distance. He can use this spell to override spells that trap others in some way, but ONLY if he is of equal or greater power to the mage (e.g., he could theoretically escape OWYH or Laugh With Me, but not Fae of Malevolence).

🌙Casimir: Wulpurgisnacht

"A never-ending hunger for power that consumes all and leaves naught but despair in its wake. This night too shall be embraced in its all-enconpassing maw. Wulpurgisnacht."

What it does: Casimir absorbs all the light from a surrounding area, whether it be artificial or not, and it becomes an extra source of magical energy from which he can pull from. Typically, it only affects nearby lights and electronics, and only in a small radius. Because this magic has a strong power, he has little to no control over it at the moment, and it is highly affected by Casimir's emotional state (his anger, sadness, and fear, can all cause the spell to activate, but so can his excitement or joy). The more extreme his emotions, the further the radius of the spell. This has led to him accidentally cutting the power to all of Ignihyde, once. Additionally, were he to overblot, this spell could hypothetically absorb the light of an entire town, were he enraged enough.

Um thank you for listening to my ted talk I hope you found this kinda fun idk... I think some of these spells are stupid and might scrap them (looking at Yuna... But also overblot theatre is fun to conceptualize).

It's probably already obvious from the focus of my textposts, but here we are. My favorite characters from 1 to some other number.

Mal

Guys, I just love her and her fuckin problems. I project onto her. I miss her with my whole heart on the rare occasion I'm not thinking of her. I know that's an odd take for the fandom, but I think she's fascinating to me *because* she's such a trainwreck. I haven't seen a DCOM main character be such a mess since HSM 2.

2. Ben

Plain and simple. He's a Disney prince and I'm exactly like other girls. The picture on the right doesn't hurt either.

3. Jay

He's so full of badassery and loyalty. Also I like how the costume designers were like 'eh, his hair is cool enough already' because they were right.

4. Uma

She's so tangled. She's so fucked up. Such a different can of worms than Mal, and for the life of me, I can't get the top open. But the label is enticing enough for me. Also China is my favorite actress in the trilogy since I grew up on Ant Farm and Wizards, so seeing her on screen just brings me joy.

5. Jane

Too pure for this world. To me, she's the golden retriever fandom thinks Ben is. Smart, capable sunshine. Get it girl. Also she's RIDICULOUSLY beautiful, which doesn't hurt.

6. Gil

ALSO too pure. In many ways the Isle version of Jane, but also a hilariously defanged "foil" for Ben compared to the raging inferno that is Mal and Audrey.

7. Maleficent

Kristen Chenoweth. Honestly, she should be higher.

8. Carlos

Impossible to do anything but love him, but underdeveloped tbh. I wish there was more to love. Also, everything to do with Dude came off oddly juvenile to me, so that's another reason his storylines didn't really work for me.

9. Hades

Hilarious. Should be lower but what can I say, I have father issues just like Mal and I'm ready to forgive him his serious transgressions because he was helpful and funny once after years of not giving a shit.

10. Evie

Fandom favorite, ikik, but nothing about her speaks to me personally. I found Jane's arc with beauty standards more relatable, especially since I felt Evie lost her "Isle-ness" after the first movie and became pure sunshine. Not that I don't love pure sunshine, but c'mon, the Isle is covered in rain clouds for a reason.

11. Lani

They girl-bossed her almost as hard as they white-washed her.

*yeah I know canon spells her name Lonnie but Xuelan/Lani from the only hoax I believe in makes more sense to me so that's what we're going with.

12. Doug

Adorable but underdeveloped. I would LOVE to have seen more of him though. Highlight was yelling "uno, dos, tres, cuatro!" before "Did I Mention?" Like why did he do that? lmao

13. Harry

Sorry sorry sorry folks, another fandom fav low on my list. He's an (at-times) uncomfortably flirty and unstable guy, and I know plenty of those already.

14. Audrey

Yeah it would take too long to explain but she will always be bottom of my list. So much about her hits me at my sore spots. But hating is boring and I'd much rather talk about the things I love so scroll up :D

If I didn't list a character, it's bc I rarely think of them oop. I know this list is far from exhaustive or objective. By all means disagree but be fun about it.

What's crazy about my last post about Aphmau and Irene's names is that I don't even have a hard to pronounce or less common name, like my name is Maddison/Maddy/Matty/Matt it's pretty standard TM white girl name but my last name gets mispronounced or misheard a lot, plus I got made fun of for it in school a lot (it has the word Kill in it so duh) but like it's stillan Irish white last name so I don't really have that experience of discrimination based on it, it was just always something that bothered me a lot which is part of why I didn't like the change in Aphmaus name. Same with changing how Irene is spelt or her name entirely, my name always gets miseplled in tiny ways but it's still bothersome BC like, that's YOUR name, yes I'm going to be peeved when people always spell my name with one D or like, as Maddi or Maddie BC that ISN'T me.

But also, I have a lot of friends who are poc who DO deal with their names being mispronounced, hell even the white people I know do a lot as well, and I've seen them be annoyed growing up about it and how they've had to deal with the jokes.

For example, I've got a friend name Jannik, and I've known him for years so throughout primary and highschool I've seen people pronounce his name with the J despite knowing it's pronounced more like Yannick. He was so sick of the jokes, though he was fine with friends pronouncing it like that like for bits hell he did it sometimes, that on his yr12 jacket he had Yannick put on instead of Jannick, partially as an inside joke but also so people would say it right.

This is like, one of many friends- offline and online!

Names just are too important to me for people to change them, yk? I don't believe many things but one thing I do believe is that names are some of the most significant things about us that only we have full control over, and people taking that control via purposefully mispronouncing it is wrong. Like that's a bit extreme to apply to people changing aph and Irene's namea for fics and AUs but it does stem from that belief lul.

Anyways, while I don't have as extreme issues with people mispronouncing my name and misspelling it, people I know do so that's why I'm still so stuck up about changing them lull.

Also, I have Aboriginal Australian families members, I'm adopted lul, and so I have a much closer attachment to the spelling and pronouncements of different indigenous languages words, I swear everytime I hear Wiradjuri mispronounced or spelt wrong I lose a braincell lol it's such a straightforward word that we're surrounded by constantly in rural/central NSW Aus from like the start of schooling and beyond into everyday life i.e news (Hell, my town has it on the welcome sign into my town below the name), so I guess my dislike towards name changing also comes from that and relating to Aphmau in that regard as well.

- the knight/ghost could ALSO work as the characters i listed above... ex. mei as the ghost and red son as hollow, mk as the ghost and macaque as hollow, mayor as hollow and syntax as ghost... they're super interchangeable!! these could all work vice-versa too. also if mk was the ghost, then instead of the void it'd either be his monkey form or ink mk. mei / red son would have the fire, etc.

- hornet... if the ghost is mei or mk then it'd probably be red son otherwise ive got no idea 😭

- tang could (possibly??) work as quirrel. either that or cornifer HAHA

- no idea who sly could be tbh

- grimm. I remember Goob using several mental gymnastics to prove that Dean was actually thinking about Castiel instead of Sam in Red Meat. According to his logic, the line ''with different outcomes'' means that Dean was thinking about Castiel because 'outcomes' was plural so it was not just about Sam / or that it was about Castiel because of the line ''in his own way'', because 'in his own way' line could be about Dean losing Castiel to possession.

Never mind that Castiel does not even appear in the episode at all, that his name does not even get mentioned in the Red Meat script, and the only name Dean thinks of is 'Sam'. Plus the fact that he says he ''just went through the same thing'', so the line directly refers to Sam because he literally just watched Sam die in the same episode and he promised he'd come back to get Sam. Castiel's name is not even written in the script and clearly Dean does/did not think about him at that moment.

I swear to God, Goob pulls so much bullshit that it is actually hilarious but also sad considering how many people can fall into his crap and believe his claims.

This was also the case with the Siren episode. I remember Hellers making analyses on the episode and saying the Siren was actually Castiel because he was dressed like Castiel, so Siren (supposedly) appeared as Castiel to Dean in the episode instead of as Sam. When the literal script, again, disproves this and even the show itself makes it clear that the Siren was basically posing as Sam to trick Dean. He literally spells it out for us that he did pose as Sam, as the 'little brother' Dean wanted because he wanted Sam to trust him.

They also deny that Sam and Dean are canonical soulmates. I've seen so many contrived logic and analyses on this too just so they can dismiss the canon narrative.

It is funny that they do not and cannot understand what they see on their screen or that they choose to willfully ignore the canon to prove their ship. But how can someone just go and make up multiple mental gymnastics to ignore the written scripts is beyond me honestly.

Just ... yeah, that's hilariously stupid. As is most of what Goob spouts, tbh. Like, if there's a bad take to be had, Goob will find it. Even if there isn't, Goob will make it up. Anyone who can't see the pattern of him being dead wrong time after time pretty much deserves to be fooled at this point. Even a heller or a newbie should be able to figure out his reputation in pretty short order if they bother to look.

Again, we're not talking about highbrow literature in deep academia here, we're talking about a fantasy horror show on the CW - what you see is what you get. The show is written to a general audience that the writers honestly don't have that much faith in the intelligence or memory of - you could tell by the previouslies and occasional ponderous exposition. People like Goob want to believe instead that the writers were actually scattering hidden clues throughout to a secret REAL story for special chosen ones smart enough to find it - like them! At heart, they're nothing more than obsessed conspiracy theorists who want to believe they're superior because they figured out The Truth™ that's hidden from the common rubes. They did all the work to find out what was really going on, why won't reality validate them?!?

The thing is, even if in the show Dean had stabbed Castiel in the face while saying, "I fucking hate you, you backstabbing weasel!"? They would write several thousand words of meta about how it was aCtuAlLy Dean expressing his hidden sexual desires through rage out of shame because he's incapable of accessing his other emotions because of John's homophobic abuse uwu. Twue Lurve! So no, it's not surprising they try to twist script notes that literally mention Sam into being about Castiel, try to ignore the siren literally saying he's trying to take the place of a little brother, insist Ash can't possibly know what he's talking about when he brings up soulmates, and on and on because [frothing batshit nonsense]. In their wacky mixed up world, there is no SPN, only D/C. They need the validation of it being real.

The Unbecoming of Elias Bouchard (M, ao3)

After about 1,000,000 years (10 months), my Michael/OGElias fic is finished! Hooray! Enormous shoutout to @blindbeta for doing a sensitivity read (and more, tbh) for me! Check it out here

Excerpt (from Chapter 4):

Some days it was like this:

“You’re too old to sit like that now, surely.” Michael commented, dropping two tote bags of groceries on the kitchen island and shaking off his coat.

Elias grinned where he was sat at the dining room table, chair turned the wrong way ‘round, chin resting on the chair back. “Counterculture ‘til I die, baby.”

Michael laughed and leaned over Elias where he was now frowning at his Perkins Brailler, trying to remember what his teacher had said about telling the difference between “i” and “e”.

“And how goes the memoir?” Michael teased. Really, tell the man you feel like Hemingway on the machine one time…

“It will be earth-shattering, so long as I can learn to spell my name right. Check for me?”

And Michael did, and then started chopping vegetables for their dinner and Elias turned on the record player and went back to clacking away with his tongue between his lips in concentration. The quiet between them was comfortable as a warm quilt, patchworked with the worn scraps of who they were before, and when Michael walked by Elias to go to the pantry, he trailed a hand over his shoulder and Elias leaned into it, easy as anything.

Elias dug his socked toes into the carpet and inhaled the smell of onion and garlic sauteing in a pan and the soft sound of Michael singing to himself and it was perfect.

Then, other days were like this:

The sounds of Michael pacing his bedroom, rambling to himself, his manic bursts of laughter. Elias knew better than to go in and try to talk to him—these dark moods were just another part of their life now. Sometimes Michael was still his ray of sunshine, bright and eager to please and then a switch would flip and his laugh would turn mocking, or he would have a short burst of meanness, like a raincloud passing by, there and then gone. It was a small price to pay to get Michael back, to be allowed to keep him. But that didn’t make it any easier.

There was a crash that suggested broken glass and Elias huffed out a sigh and flipped to his other side, resisting the childish urge to stuff a pillow over his head. Michael—the old Michael—would have been much better at this than Elias was, if their positions were reversed. Michael had been much better; how many times had he held and soothed away Elias’s frantic energy?

It’s just. They weren’t—well, Elias wasn’t sure what they were and weren’t, exactly. They certainly weren’t in a relationship, at least not the kind they had been in when they were in their 20s. Elias would say “roommates,” if the thought wasn’t so depressing he wanted to fling himself off the roof, but, honestly, that wasn’t quite right either.

It felt like living with a total stranger, in many ways, except the total stranger knew a handful of the most important things about you and also you were still, inconveniently, in love with him. Also he was a little bit of a monster.

An enormous thud let Elias know that Michael had flipped over the guest bed again. He should really get up and go to him.

Instead, he groped around the bedside table for his earplugs. For all his growth, he was still a coward.

Hello I recently found out you have been watching a series of unfortunate events and I just. I have so much to say omg!! For now I will settle with, how are you liking the show and who/what are your favorite things about it rn?

i'd already seen s1 and part of s2 w my family, but i decided to rewatch from the beginning, bc, well.

yeah.

a series of unfortunate events were books i read as a child, like. y'know the way i read the bad begnning and then i'd just grab whichever were free and settle in for an hour or so of reading. like. just. picturing their covers reminds me of being in fifth grade and sitting in a chair to read. reading was so escapism for me that i hold all childhood book series close to my chest. (fun fact!: i broke up w someone over them once.) (/j it was complicated but they did technically play a part.)

(aside: i loved anything like that, and just...god i read the bad beginning so many times. i was obsessed w tragedy and so a book series where i didn't have to sit thru to find the bad bits? the punch of knowing that there was always another hit? no happy ending would stick? good shit.)

i'm on s3 rn? i watched the first half of the grim grotto, but the second episode ended up being too much, so a friend found a summary for me, but i haven't been in the Mood for it since then. i might pick it up tonight or tomorrow, we'll See.

i'm really liking the show! i think they managed to capture the tone of the books really, really well. like. damn. that's the way to do it.

y'know how the princess bride movie is completely different from the book? because the book is sarcastic and snippy and they couldn't make it fit a movie so they just cut it?

(aside ii: no shade on the princess bride movie. i love the book and the movie. but you have to understand they're two entirely disparate stories.)

but a tv show has time to do freezes and author speaking to you like that and the narration so a series of unfortunate events gets to breathe and it gets to be told the only way it could be told.

urgh it makes me want to scream into a pillow i'm so happy about how it got told. it just. it feels as much like reading the books did as it could, and that makes me so happy.

uhm this isn't characterwise i just want to pause and say i think they're doing a good job w the deaths. that's really hard to pull off in a children's show, but they're doing it. it's very impressive and netflix is really doing well w this series.

i've liked most characters tbh. i think everyone is done really well.

count olaf doesn't fit with him in my head from the books, but not in a bad way. like the him-in-my-head was not going to work on tv i'm okay w that change. it's not even a change? it's just a subtle distinction.

i find the baudelaires are...hm.

i don't think of them in the same way i used to, and i know why. part of it is growing up, part of it is, well...

i'm not in the mood to bare my soul in a way you probably didn't expect from a short little ask, so i won't. i'll just say reflection on that part is a little bittersweet.

now you'll have to forgive me because i have a memory problem so names are not my strongsuit, nor is spelling, but i really like the snicket siblings! they're fans. and the um. the woman who made the new madame lulu. i liked her quite a lot.

the quagmire triplets r also favourites. i have a feeling that something i'm having thoughts about atm (wrt violet and what's-his-name's conversation about fires) is going to be resolved later, so i won't say what i think now, lest i invite people to comment/spoil things. but i'm a fan of the three of them. i dunno.

sibling relationships hit me in all sorts of ways.

Marikit, known to her friends as Mari, grew up near the beaches of Sulani. She was the oldest of three children and would joke to her friends that she was "the lab rat" of the family. Fortunately, Mari was a gifted child. Her mother, a quintessential tiger mom, made her join every competition she possibly could -- from spelling bees to math-triathlons to talent shows to classroom politics, you name it! Funnily enough, she always excelled at them, too. She coasted through life with good grades, multiple awards, and, despite being an introvert, a decent amount of friends. But even with all of these, Mari felt average, almost invisible. She didn't know who she was outside of her books and certificates. Her hometown, comforting as it was, kept feeling smaller and smaller.

When uni applications rolled around, Mari decided it was time for a change. She picked the farthest university there was - Britechester University - to study Language and Literature. She wanted to be a writer. In uni, she realized that there were a lot of bright young people, maybe even brighter than her, around. She developed a creeping suspicion that, despite what her parents and childhood mentors told her, she wasn't all that special. On the flip side, uni also opened her up to a new and exciting world of juice and keg parties. She went out every night and met many different people. She was widening her horizons, she said. She bounced from relationship to relationship, fling to fling, and she tried almost all mostly-legal substances. She wanted to experience it all! A term shy of graduating, for no particular reason, she packed up her bags and moved again. Her college-town felt too small, too.

After a few years of jumping from place to place, Mari is now 25 and looking to put down some roots. She's not entirely sure what she wants to do with her life but for now she works as a public relations coordinator in San Myshuno. If she feels like a basic bitch, it's because she's already trying to clean up her act (for the most part). She's slow to warm up to people but with three tequila shots in she might just tell you about that one time she almost got herself into an orgy (it's more comedic than it sounds). I try! It depends on what's going on with me. Sometimes I just don't have the energy, and I figure people would rather I spend my brain power on writing new fics than on writing replies to comments. Wish I had a fave button tho so I could let people know I read and reread comments, because I do!

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Oh I wrote this ficlet series called A Chemical Defect about John and Sherlock's relationship in s3 of BBCS, and it's WILDLY unpopular. People don't read my fic to cry sad tears I guess! John and Sherlock are having an affair in the story, and it ends with the implication that their relationship is unsustainable and that Mary knows about it anyway. I intended to come back to it after s4 and write a more optimistic ending but LOL! Didn't have the heart.

7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I know this answer is kinda up my own ass, but like. I think stories that feel true to life sort of feel like they end on a beginning if you know what I mean? You don't really consider a chapter of your life closed until you look back on it from the next? SO that said, I think I'd have to say that it's my big BBCS serial The Only One in the World. I spent 2 years writing it, and it ends with John retiring from medicine to solve crimes and write books full time.

Could also be my WDMCU (werewolf Draco Malfoy cinematic universe) series Moonrise, which starts with Draco isolated in his abusive mother's house, trying to cope with lycanthropy essentially alone and ends with him in love and surrounded by found family in a cozy cottage in Hogsmeade, having gotten some lycanthrope rights legislation passed after working at it for years and talking to Harry about whether they want to have kids. Oh man I feel warm and fuzzy just thinking about it

I have written one crossover. It's BBCS/Fleabag, because me and @loudest-subtext-in-tv were laughing about how John seems like one of the horrible guys Fleabag sleeps with basically out of self loathing, so I wrote this fic to make Nattie laugh, and you should read it bc it's so good and so underrated.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not really, but people don't seem to know that authors can read bookmark tags unless you private the bookmark, and someone once put in the bookmark tag on one of my fics 'writing was meh but it was okay.' Okay so why bookmark it then??

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Fuck yes! I'm not sure what 'what kind?' means? People fucking? Sloppy, silly, and awkward, with lots of laughing. I also really like writing afterglow scenes which are even sillier and gigglier and often involve one character cooking for another. Food as love language is a very distinct pattern of mine tbh

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of, but occasionally I'll write a post on here where I make some elaborate head canon, and I'll see people in the tags talking about how they want to write fic of it, and it makes me breathe fire out of my nose like a dragon like PLEASE DON'T. The WDMCU came out of a ficlet post I made on here like a year before I actually wrote the 60k series so like!!! Please don't do that!

Yes! To Russian and I believe Chinese. Not my entire oeuvre but a handful of BBCS and Good Omens fics

No, but I wrote a fic inspired by an RP I did with my gf right around when we met (actually now that I think about it, it's two fics), and I waaaaaaanna do a WDMCU collab with my beloved Sally @clytemenestras at some point if he has time bc he inspired me to even write werewolf draco with his original lesbian werewolf story

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I don't post fics unless theyre finished, so I don't have any WIP up on AO3, but I did intend to continue with my fem Sherlock Holmes series, Your Many Tendencies. I just haven't been in a Holmes mood for a long time. Maybe I'll come back to it idk. This particular series is honestly very unpopular? People will just straight up say they don't read femslash, and it hurts a lot. This series feels really personal too, bc it's about a Black autistic nonbinary lesbian, so it does hurt my feelings that no one seems to care, yknow? I mean the people who read it are extremely kind and thoughtful in their engagement with it, but it has vastly less engagement than my m/m fic, and that's painful. It gets literally 1/10 the attention my fics usually get.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Almost all of my writing is romance, but I tend to write concurrently about recovery and found family, and I think I'm very good at doing that in a way that connects with my audience. I once had someone ask if they could use my words in their wedding vows, and I've had people tell me they started doing things with their spouse that my characters do with their partners in order to express love. I think about that all the time. My Impact. It makes me feel like I have a real duty to my audience yknow?

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

This question is hard for me like I've been writing so long and so much that I'm literally always happy with my final draft! It's always exactly to my taste, yknow? I suppose I could say that my fics tend not to be terribly plotty but so WHAT? That's beside the fuckn point for me. Plot who? I don't know Her. Also honestly like. Stories feel more True to me when they aren't ruthlessly devoted to plot bc like life isn't like that yknow?

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If you're not fluent in that language, get a beta who is!!!!! That said, I have written scraps of very simple dialogue in French using mostly Google Translate (sometimes I check w Sally bc he speaks French but I am usually too impatient), and I am perfectly well aware that I take my life in my hands each time!!! Also don't do that bullshit thing where it's in italics? That shit is weird and exoticizing. Just write it in quotation marks like normal dialogue.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

BBCS babey back in 2012. Ended a 5 year dry spell for me after I got my writing degree.

My thoughts on 139 as an Ereri shipper

Buckle up for a long read and some unpopular opinions haha. Feel free to add on/ correct me but this is only how I feel so take it with a pinch of salt, I'm not asking anyone to change how they feel because we're all feeling some feels right now and your grief is valid. I just really wanna talk about the chapter before I go back to my Yaoi ship. (Forgive my grammar errors and all I wrote this at 5am and I'll probably come back and fix the spelling and stuff later today)

Thoughts on ch 139:

Well... here we are guys. The last chapter, it's been one hell of a ride and even though I have only been a part of the community for three years I'm still sad it ended. (Not to mention it finished 4 days before my birthday but that's just an extra oof) I keep seeing a lot of Mikasa hate and even though I used to despise her this chapter really got me thinking and damn, she's definitely one of the strongest characters (second to Levi at least in terms of resolve but hey I'm biased lol) she killed the person she loved, who pushed her away time and time again, and until the very end wanted to save him yet she was the one who ended it all. I doubt I could do that if my girlfriend was doing something similar... but I guess most people are like that. I admit, when I read the chapter at work I began crying in the break room, not because the ending caught me off guard, it was about what I was expecting, but I'm still sad Eren died. All this stuff was foreshadowed through especially the last few chapters and I kind of hopped into the manga around when Zeke blew Levi up, and even then... I feel like I knew this would be how it turned out some time last year? It was mostly predictable since this story, from it's inception, has done nothing but break the shonen stereotype time and time again and this was just the kind of ending that would shatter the mould and make it worthy of that moniker. Now am I happy that Eremika is canon? Not really, in fact not at all I'm mad. Although tbh it's not that I really expected a same sex, age gap relationship to be canon in mainstream manga, but this is what fan fiction is made for right? Besides as much as this manga has challenged or straight up ignored it's very obvious what the intended ship was going to be from the start. Even still the confession at the end by Eren is honestly OOC from most of everything else he's said/done and feels forced but, 🤷🏻‍♀️ like... the ending would have been better if Eren's feelings stayed vague so we could come to our own conclusion. If I had my way I'd have Eren confessing to Levi and they'd run off to live in secret but again... that isn't how it ended and I'm accepting that even if I don't like it. (Plus I can read/write a fanfic of a 'better' ending to make myself feel better) but I'm glad I stuck around for such a bitter sweet end.

Eren's character:

Now I love Eren as much as anyone else, but I see lots of people crying "character assassination" and I feel this personally isnt true at least not completely. We're all grieving right now and I know he was so cute and lovable at the start (hell in a way he still is) but this has always been his character. He is the one who most desperately yearns for freedom because feels trapped by his fate more than anyone else. The line "I felt like I had to and I let myself get caught up in the flow" is proof he *knows* he isn't free despite his father's reassurance, and his own repetition of the phrase. There's a common phenomenon with mantras or the practice of repeating something over and over in your head, the more you say it, *the less you believe it* and IMHO Eren never really felt free from the start. He knew his fate was sealed and he probably could have, no... *should* have acted differently yet he himself couldn't change what fate had in store. He just kept moving forward for no other reason than he wanted to save Mikasa, Armin, and his people. He (may have?) sacrificed Carla, not to serve as motivation, but so that he could save Armin later on by eating the Colossal titan instead of burning to death. It must have been a heart wrenching choice to make but he cares for his friends more than anyone else. He gave them a fighting chance and his death gave the alliance a good name so the world (or the 20% left of it) would see they aren't the same as him. Of course I'm thinking, "What if he had Dina free Carla or just let her eat Bert I mean Grisha probably would have passed on the Attack titan to Eren even if Carla had lived," but Armin very well could've died in another way or things could've turned out so much worse for everyone else. But even if Eren hates his choice I think something to note here is he doesn't seem to regret it, taking some of Levi's advice with him to the grave (quite literally) Plus you guys have to remember he died at 19 years old, that is *young* and I may only be a few years older but 18-21 is a huge period of change and you wont make the best choices, he's dealing with all that on top of the memories of the other titan holders, and the founding titan which I think really messed with him more than anything. He even says he only wants to live 10 more years ;-; the poor thing deserved a full life too even if his perception of time is warped and he never got a chance to become an adult.

The aftermath:

Well, everyone seems happy for the most part which is great! The one thing that I didn't expect was for the ending to be bitter sweet rather than total annihilation. Historia really does seem... fuck it I don't know and this is the part that bugs me most is she never really got the ending she deserved and felt kinda... forgotten? It's hard to tell but I think she ended up loving her child in the end... maybe... she's smiling while holding her... right? Levi is out beyond the walls and he may be wheelchair bound and half blind but he's still alive! Now this is honestly my saving grace here I mean god imagine him surviving a literal bomb only to die such a lame and pointless death in the last chapter. My boy made it through everything though and he's still got them dad vibes with Gabi and Falco which is kinds sweet... but I still hate Gabi. I still really hate Gabi, but it's nice to see that they're all somewhat okay. (Plus okay... Eren Canonically being reborn as a bird is kinda hilarious yet fitting since he got his freedom... Parasitic Jaeger haha good one Isayama.) Who knows if the war will ever end, heck Isayama himself said this is only the begining and while the fight goes on they have a chance thanks to Eren sacrificing himself the way he did. He could've made so many other choices and I don't know what could've/would've been better. Maybe Isayama knows but time travel and altering the past opens a whole ass can of worms that is just... like the killing your grandpa paradox kinda thing and if I were writing this story I wouldn't wanna try and deal with that either, especially after writing one story for eleven years.

to be honest, I don't... Really understand why the trolls got honkers. Like, seriously-- they're supposed to be based off insects, yeah? You don't see insects runnin' around with more tit than the average college student. Maybe it's because of Hussie being a cishet white man but some of the trolls present incredibly feminine (Chixie) or incredibly masculine (Equius) and they even follow that trend. Yeah, some do blur the lines (Lanque, Nikkee [I did not spell her name right lol]) but it's (1/2)

But it's just very odd to have an "insectoid" and biologically hermaphrodite species, then turn around and give them very feminine or masculine presenting biology. They don't produce children like us humans-- so they really have no need for breasts [something for milk carrying]. In fact, because they don't produce kids like us- I don't see why they'd be sexualized either?? I like Lanque, but his route was,,,, incredibly weird? For someone who's supposed to be a teen? Hdeihdsodh (2/2)

This is one of my biggest issues with the way the trolls are done, tbh! As a design choice, from a cishet white man in around 2010, I can see why it was done; to him, the presence of boobers was the only way to actively show that some of his characters were female (because of course there needed to be male and female characters, irregardless of how an alien species might understand gender in a way that is completely differential to ours, especially when they are both insectoid and as a species biologically hermaphrodites - or should have been, since he’s incredibly vague about it in canon). 

When you take away the design element, though, and then go into it at a worldbuilding point of view... man it seems weird. Tits are there specifically to produce milk for live mammalian young. That’s the only purpose they host; any connotations of sexuality are placed on them by white male society. They’re not meant inherently for sex or sexual pleasure. So... why would a species that gives their genetic material to an outside host, who then never see their young at all, when their young are either born without the requirement to eat or can already eat solids at the point of hatching, have tits? 

Does Hussie think a fish species would have tits? Or a bird species? Does he think that anything, when it is made humanoid, inherently becomes mammalian and need titties? It’s something that I’ve admittedly always hated about the design of the trolls. You can show a male-female divide in so many other ways if you really think you need one; you don’t need to always default to boobers. 

(In a way, it’s kind of frustrating that content creators always do, because it’s deciding that our specific physical traits with cishet white male gendered connotations persist even in alien species - which, maybe this is just me as a trans dude, but I think I’d prefer a society where tits don’t make you a woman, for once. Or exist at all.)

On the point of the trolls and masc/femm presenting, especially since you brought up the two worst offenders - isn’t it infuriating that even in the Indigoblood caste, where Equius is meant to be an outlier and his strength is seen as a mutation, Nikkee (I don’t know how to spell her name, either) is treated like even MORE of an outlier for being muscular and strong and hosting societally masculine traits? As if a female in the Blueblood caste isn’t meant to be like that? They could’ve made inherent strength and masculinity a feature of the Indigoblood caste (like the femininity of the Jadebloods), but nope!

Again, they’re based on insects. They don’t... need to follow the strict gender division we see in our society. They could do literally anything with the trolls and it’d be banging because they’re a completely different society and species to us, but instead they just follow the same gendered societal trappings we have. I assume because it’s easiest to write what you know, but what you know doesn’t always make for cool worldbuilding or interesting aliens. 

Lanque’s route has its definite flaws, and I think again it’s based in the idea that Alternian society is too mired in our own society’s ideas. They tried to make something new but instead made some confusing amalgamation of our issues in a society that they don’t quite fit into. And I think, sometimes, they forget the actual age of their characters - which in no way helps at all (especially since they tried to put his character into a lot of the sexy vampire tropes, which a teen should not be put into). 

It’s almost like Hussie didn’t go far enough. He started to create a completely new and unique species, but didn’t push further than what he could perceive as things that could be changed. There were universal factors - like gender - that he couldn’t envision his society without, even though in a lot of cases it just makes his worldbuilding confusing at best and flimsy at worst. 

It’s why I take a “everything needs to be rewritten” stance with the Alternians in a worldbuilding point of view if we want things to make sense. I know not everyone agrees with this - and @chelonianmobile has some amazing theorywork to explain how troll society could work in a more gendered way that we would understand - but definitely there are some things I wish had been... developed upon. And other things troll titties I wish had been left out.

Alæru would be fascinated by Mana, and likely deeply enjoy exploring their kingdom *-* Alæru is aware of many gods/immortals, she would probably immediately respect Mana on a similar level to her homeworld’s dieties. This would make Alæru act formal and a bit over-polite while interacting with Mana, at least for a while. Heheh. If Mana were nice to her, she would probably be a bit star-struck and obvious about it. Alæru would also ask as many questions as possible, perhaps… too many. She would be all too happy listening to Mana’s stories for days ( and Alæru is definitely a food snob, so the fine dining would be a major motivation… she loves free food, but is picky about it. She’s awful ;-; ). Alæru is an excellent listener because she is usually truly interested in other people’s thoughts. Sometimes she will laugh or ask short questions, but that is mainly to let the other person know she is genuinely engaged. If Alæru notices it bothers someone, she’ll stop interrupting quickly. 

Alæru would be happy to give any information or story of her own “worthy” of being told… but she would totally be shy/anxious about what to share?? Her mother is a star-creating goddess & life deity; her world is usually what Alæru enjoys discussing. Alæru only lived in the Garden Realm for a short time, but it was everything she admires in a place. Very colorful, everything glows, and has a fantastic aesthetic, but 99% natural - only a few open-air structures, with plenty of sunlight let in, water and plants throughout, exist on the entire small planet. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Alæru’s memories/stories are intense in a bad way. She doesn’t want to traumatize anyone else with them, though they are extremely interesting and hold valuable bits of information about what can happen to gods/the universe when corruption occurs. Alæru’s father is an immortal demon-like entity who ate the soul of a corrupt god (so he became a corrupt god too. dumbass) - that side of the family is something she is deeply ashamed of. Alæru is secretly perpetually worried she will become corrupt too, and doesn’t really understand why she isn’t already. Alæru would be a bit nervous around Mana/their power, and wonder what they could glean about her past, just by being near them. Alæru is not afraid to share her stories, but she is afraid of the reaction? Alæru definitely prefers to hear about other’s stories, adventures, and culture, and keep the focus on them.

Alæru certainly wouldn’t blame Mana for wanting to go “out on business” to enjoy more adventures, heheh. She would likely do the same thing if she ever had that level of consistent responsibility. She would totally love how honest Mana is about their feelings towards people (Alæru is the same way, blunt but certainly never rude unless the person is a huge prick!! and deserves it!! ) Alæru would deeply admire Mana for caring about the wellfare of their people and wish more leaders could be like them. It would also inspire Alæru to want to be more like Mana in that particular aspect, if not others. Alæru would probably end up shadowing them whenever allowed, or visit Mana’s kingdom whenever possible. (Alæru gets very attached to parental or teacher-like figures when they are kind and compassionate. She has not encountered many good people with power like Mana.) A beautiful utopia with happy people and delicious food would be a welcome relief from many of Alæru’s journeys, which involve strenuous space travel to corrupt planets. YIKES. She would have a difficult time leaving! (Mana, you’re gonna have to kick her out, sorry.)

Llyr, who would only be in Mana’s kingdom if Alæru was there as well (Llyr only travels because of Alæru. He’s terrified she’s going to get herself killed), would be respectful but wary of Mana. Llyr is a true demigod but doesn’t trust any of the gods (his mother is a water demon of sorts, but not a true demon like Alæru’s lineage. his father-figure is the water deity, who is genderfluid/a shapeshifter). Likely, he would lump Mana in the same category as his own homeworld’s deities, and want to find Mana’s flaws in order to feel safer. Llyr is a little bit of a dumbass sometimes, even though he’s educated and his heart is generally in the right place. 

I’m not sure if Llyr would be able to let his guard down in Mana’s kingdom, but with how lovely it sounds, he actually might?? The high-quality food is definitely the best way to win him over, especially if you don’t make him eat a vegetarian/vegan meal.  Llyr would probably be very intimidated by Mana and be a little jealous of how amazing and near-perfect they are, tbh. Heheh. He would also be jealous because Alæru would be in awe of Mana, and give them an immense amount of starry-eyed attention. However, if Mana was kind to Alæru, that would totally earn points with Llyr and confuse him, because he would like Mana more inherently for respecting Alæru?? Yeahhhh~ Llyr loves attention and would be more than happy to share his personal adventures with Mana. He knows a lot of water magic and spells completely unique to the lineage of the water deity, and is aware of secrets the moon tells within the tides during various phases / cycles.

For Beren!! Alæru would be unbearably curious about Beren’s real name, ohmygod. She might make up different names for Beren every time she met her, just to see if Beren would blurt out her real name out of frustration (DEMONS, UHG. Alæru is a little shit sometimes.) Alæru would totally enjoy how and why Beren chose that particular name though, and like Beren more for it?? If that makes sense?? Heheh. Alæru enjoys good stories, even if they are lies, and if Beren attempted to manipulate Alæru, it probably wouldn’t bother her that much. Alæru has respect for clever survival tactics and people who think on their feet. Alæru would enjoy studying Beren’s way of going about things, and probably end up playing conversational games with her. It would be hilarious to watch Beren and Alæru sit in the same room together for an extended period of time?? Alæru is extremely honest and rarely lies, but she would likely wear a more world-appropriate form so she didn’t stand out (I mean – glowing, colorful, horns, teeth, wings poppin’ out sometimes, a tail, changing forms whenever she’s in a new environment… yeah… she can look really alien to people!!) Alæru would wonder how long it took Beren to catch her in one of her real forms (I’m guessing, probably not long.) 

Alæru might frustrate Beren because things rarely surprise her. Alæru lived with demons and corrupt gods, it’s difficult to scare her or catch her off guard (unless you have a spider!) I think she would be a good friend for Beren, even though it would be frustrating at first/perhaps not possible because Beren is so guarded? Alæru loves thinking critically and attempts to tame her chaotic nature at all times, and tries to direct her energy towards productive things (whether it be purifying corrupt matter, or growing plants~ She often fights life and death battles for her friends, and will fight for people she barely knows. She will die for animals and plants, and even though she is critical of humanoids, she will die for most of them too, heheh. Definitely a huge martyr complex). She might eventually become like a big sister to Beren, and try to help her find purpose once she is done mentoring Wolf, if Beren ever eventually let someone else in emotionally other than Bakal. Alæru would definitely admire Beren’s fighting skills and ability to fillet a bitch.

Llyr wouldn’t even know what the hell to do with Beren. He would be calm around her, but very snarky if he ever managed to catch her in a lie or attempted manipulative tactic. Llyr would notice some similar qualities between Beren and his twin Nyx, who he eventually learns cannot be trusted. Llyr would most likely quietly observe Beren and spend most of that time trying to figure her out. He would also be very extra protective of Alæru around Beren out of instinct. Because Llyr is a shapeshifter, he could easily blend into whatever world Beren exists within, without limit. He would be perpetually worried about Beren figuring out his, or even worse Alæru’s, true forms. He doesn’t trust how people from other planets will react to aliens/monsters :(

I love when stuff that is traditionally menswear is made into women's clothing. It has that masculine professionalism but that elegant femininity. RC: There are no shortcuts in writing KR: Nope but there is to our favourite bar. I found a new route that will get us to the old haunt in 8 minutes. I've kinda been in an acapella and/or folk music mood recently so the Maccabeats and Peter Hollens are in my YouTube and Spotify history a lot recently. also I'm eternally in awe of Forte Handbell Quartet (eta a longer video; i recommend skipping to the techno piece or the Jurassic Park theme)

Last thing I googled: "vine why are you buying clothes at the soup store" (my wife hasn't seen it; also i can't find the vine because apparently it's a much bigger meme than I realized). before that it was "chgrp not root" because work and group permissions are useful when they work

Song stuck in my head: well for most of the day when I haven't been actively listening to something, it's been the Pokemon RSE route-walking music. (but that somehow happens frequently when I'm in the no-music-no-internet room at work, as I was for most of the day, and I don't know how I accidentally trained my brain to make that connection). right now, surprisingly, I don't have any background music playing in my head. I think it's because the humidifier provides just enough white noise that my brain doesn't feel the need to provide its own

Other blogs: my main is @muggle-the-hat and I'm a mod on @why-do-neurotypicals but we've gotten one ask ever so that blog has been dormant for a while. I have a bunch of other sideblogs, but they're all small and I use different screen names on each of them (enby life: no idea which name suits me best so I may as well try them out) so i feel like it would just confuse things to link them.

What I’m Wearing: pajamas. staying warm and cozy

Lucky number: I don't remember what I said last time, but I like a lot of numbers. 64 is a good number. recently I've been debugging software in which 0x3E is my lucky status number and 0x0E taunts me. (um, decimal 62 and 14). Also my other favorite number i can't share until it's no longer the combination to the lock to the Secret Room. (or realistically never because opsec and i shouldn't make public the types of parents we use for that combination lock), honestly I aim to be like.... ah, I'm sure the anecdote involves G.H. Hardy but i don't remember on which side. anyway one mathematician remarked to another about how the id number of the taxi he rode in was sadly uninteresting, and the one I aspire to be like, argued "what are you talking about, this number is interesting because ______" and I'd like to be able to do that for any arbitrary number thrown at me. (hi yes math is good, history is hard, math history is interesting yet i still forget the people even if i remember the math. except when things are named after people, but that tends to be, like, Euler and LaGrange and other people who did lots of cool science things so i remember the methods and the names of the methods separately which never helps)

Amount of sleep: ....depression both screws with my sleep schedule and means I always feel like I need more sleep except when I wake up at 5pm and feel like I've wasted the day. so yeah. I can never get enough sleep

Favorite food: yes (why do I have to pick a favorite?) uh, chocolate in most forms, many other sweet things, red meats (especially if served with potatoes), curry (especially if it has "too much" ginger), fresh-baked bread, chai the way my favorite local Indian restaurant makes it (spicier with just a little bit of sweet, which is the opposite of what i can get from the mocha machine at work which is wayyy sweet with a hint of spice but that inferior chai is still superior to coffee so i drink too much of it). also vegetables which I really don't eat enough of: sauteed zucchini and onions, roasted broccoli

Dream trip: dreaming requires creativity and tbh I funnel that mostly into my writing instead. I wouldn't mind going back to Korea for another visit though

Dream job: my current job is pretty good when I feel productive and when my debugging tools actually produce data maybe??? (they were not being helpful today. but i still mostly like my job.) dream job is probably this but with seniority and confidence and double the salary (while living in a similar area of the country; I wouldn't want to double my salary by moving to work for Google in California and having less available after rent than I do now)

how about a combination answer: when we got our new handbell music this season, we only looked at half the pieces our first rehearsal and afterwards I tried to look up one of the pieces we hadn't gotten to on YouTube because it's got a weird time signature and I wanted to get a feel for how fast it would go and how strict the counting is...... except it turns out we're the first group to ever play the piece. it was commissioned recently but seeing my conductor's name on the page didn't tell me how new it was because he's super prolific. (the fact that it was on printer paper without the publisher's graphics should have been a giveaway but it's only the second time I've been among the first to play one of his pieces so I think I can be excused for not realizing)

Languages: mostly just English, but I took Spanish for years, so I can hold simple conversations in it. I can almost read sound out Hebrew fast enough to keep up in services, and I know some random Hebrew vocab but comparatively no grammar. and I took Korean in college, enough that I can recognize sentence structure but I can really only speak tourist-Korean, though I can sound anything out (if it's typed. handwriting is hit or miss.) in both Hebrew and Korean (and Spanish tbh but i don't often listen to Spanish music) I'm very proud when I can separate the words enough, listening to a song, to translate them without looking up the lyrics. also I tried to learn Japanese from Duolingo when it was new, but I still hadn't gotten the kana straight when it started progressing to kanji so that was a rough time and I went back to Hebrew.

tbh I "dabble" in "language learning" which really means I start a million courses on Duo and stick with none of them. with the notable exception of French, which I acknowledge is super common and probably a good idea to learn but the spelling and pronunciation seem so arbitrary I'm scared to look close enough to learn it properly, and I've never particularly considered starting the Duolingo course for French
